Nutritional therapy for gastritis reduces stomach discomfort and inflammation pain.
Properly selected menu contributes to the effectiveness of therapeutic measures, normalization of digestion. The gastric gastritis diet includes treatment tables 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. The choice of a particular menu depends on the level of acidity, the phase of the disease. Tables 1, 4, 5 offer several options. They are marked with letters in the number of the main diet and are used according to the severity of the symptoms, the period of the disease (acute, fading, chronic form).
How much to diet for gastritis? Strict monitoring is required during exacerbation and in the first months thereafter. But ideally, a patient diagnosed with gastritis should follow the recommended chart during remission. However, menu extensions and holiday exceptions are possible. If only within reasonable limits, and if not coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, and fatty foods.
Diet for gastritis: basic rules
As for organizing a diet for gastritis at home, the gastroenterologist advises patients to follow five main rules.
- Food processing. In the case of gastritis, foods should be processed by heat. Even raw vegetables and fruits are an exceptional case. Meat and fish are not eaten in pieces. These products are separated from bones, skin, tendons and made in the form of meatballs, slices, cabbage rolls.

To remove carbon dioxide, the bottle is unfolded and placed in a bowl in warm water for about 20 minutes. This drink is useful before meals. In addition to medicinal water, compotes of dried fruits and fresh berries are presented to patients with gastritis.
- First courses. Soups are essential in the diet of patients with gastritis. However, vegetarian recipes or a second or third non-rich broth are preferred.
- Cooking. Patients with gastritis should not eat very hot or very cold foods. Meals can be steamed, cooked or baked without crust. Nothing can be fried, pickled, canned or cured with a diagnosis of gastritis. Porridge is boiled in water or half milk without butter. Moreover, in the stage of exacerbation of gastritis and in the presence of severe clinical symptoms, it is better to follow the cooking recommendations prescribed by Therapeutic Diet # 1. Developed by Manuil Pevzner. It is especially advantageous to eat clean food. The products are made with a sieve or pate sieve and a blender. Table 1 is usually prescribed during the exacerbation of peptic ulcer disease.
The diet of gastritis is in many ways similar to the menu recommended for children in the first years of life. There is no place for greasy, fried and sweet things. Meals are prepared without flavoring and with a minimal amount of flavoring spice. To facilitate the digestion process, the food is chopped as much as possible.
Principles of a Low Acid Diet
The main task of nutrition in this type of gastritis is to stimulate enzymes and acid production in the stomach, to speed up the entry of food into the gut.
Pureed and liquid foods should be preferred, but unlike other forms of gastritis, acidic foods such as kefir, fresh cottage cheese, citrus fruits are acceptable. In addition to the period of exacerbations, you can even eat fried foods, but strictly without panicking and limiting the amount of oil. The temperature of the food should not be higher than 60 degrees and should not be lower than 15 degrees. The caloric content of the daily diet can be up to 2500-3000 kcal.
Principles of a High Acid Gastritis Diet
Regardless of the cause of gastric mucositis, it is important to follow a diet when treating high acid gastritis.
Similar to the treatment of the acute phase: no fried, salted, smoked, spicy food, lots of liquid and pureed food, small portions. The products should not provoke the secretion of gastric juice, should remain in the stomach for a long time, and should also irritate the mucous membranes. The principles of nutrition are almost the same as the diet for acute gastritis, however, slices, meatballs are added to the diet, the daily salt intake is slightly increased (up to 8 g), and bakery products are allowed. Foods are best cooked with steam, steamed, cooked or baked, eaten hot, chewed thoroughly.
The normal caloric content of a high acid gastritis diet is 2, 200 to 2, 500 kcal. Often, the patient is prescribed vitamin complexes to make up for the vitamin deficiency.
Principles of Acute Illness Diet
If the disease worsens, it would be reasonable for this period to completely exclude the patient from all nutrition and to rest his digestive system. In case the acute form of the disease is caused by poisoning or taking certain medications, you must first flush the gastrointestinal tract and induce vomiting.
On the first day, drink warm fluids and tea. The next day, if the patient’s condition has improved, he or she can gradually begin the process of feeding with liquid food. It is recommended to use it first from milk and cereals, liquid soups, meat and fish puree. Also allowed:
- weak tea,
- potions,
- jelly,
- Honey.
When aggravated, it should be excluded from the diet:
- Fresh vegetables and fruits,
- broths,
- fermented dairy products,
- carbonated drinks,
- coffee,
- sweets,
- any bakery ware,
- cheese.
All food should be steamed and served lukewarm. The caloric content of the diet should not exceed 2000 kcal.

Diet 5 for gastritis
If gastritis is combined with cholecystitis, liver disease, it is recommended to keep the diet No. 5 at home. It is also prescribed for people with mild gastritis. Diet limits the consumption of foods rich in uric acid. The list of prohibited foods includes liver, yeast, canned fish, salmon, mushrooms, shrimp, and mussels. Zucchini with vegetable stew
To cook stew, take 300 g of potatoes, 150 g of zucchini, 100 g of carrots, 2 tbsp. l. vegetable oil, 1 liter of water, carrot juice.
The zucchini and carrots are washed, sliced and steamed with oil. The potatoes are washed, peeled, cut into large slices, filled with water and cooked until soft. Add steamed vegetables to the finished potatoes with broth, salt, and place on low heat for 10 minutes.
Cabbage casserole
Casserole dish made of 150 g of cabbage, 2 tbsp. l. semolina, 1 egg white, 35 ml milk, 1 tbsp. l. vegetable oil.
Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl and let the semolina swell for 20 minutes. The cabbage is chopped and combined with the resulting mixture. Grease the frying pan with vegetable oil and place in a preheated oven until soft.
Consequences of non-compliance with the diet
For any type of gastritis, refusing to follow a diet may cause the patient to experience the following problems:
- vitamin deficiency;
- Diseases of the liver, pancreas, duodenum, colon and small intestine (as a result of impaired gastric function);
- significant weight loss (fear of eating);
- peptic ulcer and its consequences: perforation of the ulcer, penetration of the ulcer - germination into the organ, bleeding;
- Development and transformation of atrophic gastritis into gastric cancer.
